Subject Description
The doors consist of sixteen relief panels depicting the history of human redemption. Central figures include St. Peter and St. Paul, with scenes illustrating the Fall of Man, the Annunciation, and the life of Christ. The iconography centers on the theme of Divine Mercy and the opening of the door as a symbol of pilgrimage and spiritual renewal during Jubilee years.

Provenance History
Commissioned by the Catholic Church (Pope Pius XII) as a gift from the Swiss Catholics to commemorate the 1950 Jubilee Year; permanently installed at St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.
Art Historical Significance
A major 20th-century liturgical commission replaced the previous wooden doors. It is the northernmost door of the basilica, opened only during Ordinary or Extraordinary Jubilee years by the Pope, making it one of the most significant sites in Roman Catholic pilgrimage.
Notable Features
Includes the artist's signature and the coat of arms of Pope Pius XII. Each panel is separated by intricate friezes of floral motifs and symbols of the Evangelists.
