Provenance History

Marked 'La Mirada' and 'Made in USA'. These were commonly sold in interior design shops and department stores in the United States during the mid-to-late 20th century.

Art Historical Significance

Low art historical significance as fine art; however, they represent a specific trend in 20th-century American home decor that sought to replicate traditional European folk crafts using modern industrial materials.

Notable Features

Distinctive 'La Mirada' branding which identifies the American manufacturer; the iconography is a direct imitation of Dutch or German wooden culinary molds.

Condition Issues

Surface scuffing, edge wear, minor chipping, and dust accumulation in the recessed areas of the relief. The faux finish shows some fading.

Conservation Recommendations

Dust with a soft brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid water or solvent-based cleaners which may strip the faux-wood patina. Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent further fading of the finish.
