Subject Description
The painting depicts a historical scene at Versailles in 1674, where Louis XIV receives the Prince de Condé at the top of the Ambassadors' Staircase. Condé, returning from his victory at Seneffe, bows to the Sun King. The composition is highly theatrical, featuring numerous courtiers, Swiss guards, and captured enemy flags.
